now with this again?

man, this marks a second time someone i’m close to has professed their desire to want to become a freemason. oooooeeee, what up with that? i said, what’s up, i mean, what’s up with that? what up with that?!!

honest to god, i’ve always gotten a very sinking feeling in my gut whenever the freemasons were mentioned, even as a kid. then, you grow up and get a little more shady, sketchy information under your belt (freemasons, illuminati, et al) and the feeling intensifies.

i know, i know. it’s just a bunch of men who are trying to do good for their community and live by moral principles but for some reason JUST HAVE TO KEEP THEIR RITUALS SECRET AND ONLY ALLOW IN MEN.

yeah, that.

there’s just nothing anyone can say that will convince me that’s awesome. or that i should be stoked if my friends tell me they’re all about being freemasons. i’ll just shut the fuck up and let them do their thing, but i’m not going to pretend i think it’s amazingly wonderful. there’s plenty of other ways to get hooked up with god and to do service work that aren’t secret. and that allow women to participate. i just can’t get on board. sorry, guys.

  1. One thing i could never figure out is how the unions allow these guys to do bricklaying work for free.

  2. Nothing about “coffee club” is secret. What do you want to know? I’ll blab without a shred of remorse. 7th tradition? Getting a coin? Sponsoring? 3rd step prayer? Anyone can buy a Big Book. Come to an open meeting; we’ll share our deepest, darkest secrets and how to recover from a hopeless state of mind and body right from the podium. GSO is open every weekday for tours. A lot of places the program is hanging on the wall. Unless a group is seriously sick, there’s nothing that goes on *procedurally* in a meeting that needs to be kept private.

If you’re talking about jargon or lingo, sure. There’s bound to be words or phrases that need explaining to outsiders, but that happens anywhere there’s people in a group doing a specific thing. BoB says mathy shit all the time I don’t understand, but what he’s saying aren’t secrets.

And that website is all about the Europeans, yo. Cause the Euros are good people. But in Amerrrika, we don’t like broads messing up our secret societies. “The three Lodges created by the Women’s Grand Lodge of Belgium since 1992 hope to one day form the Women’s Grand Lodge of the United States.”

***You have a preconceived notion of what the “secrets” in freemasonry are…and they all come down to lingo, symbolism and the gestures, done by people in a group doing a ‘specific thing’. Trust me, I’ve been there, done that.

Circle in a triangle? yep, you and I know what that means…’normies’ look at it and wonder…and can you as a member tell someone who asks? Yes. Someone asks me what the square and compass dealio is about and I can tell them, too.

Certain key phrases? Again, you and I know. Half of the masonic ‘key phrases’ are in the public lexicon: “on the level”…”square dealing”…”the third degree”…”hoodwinked”…..”blackballed”..

hell, a bunch of the symbolism and ideas in the Big Book tie in to Bill and the good Dr.’s masonic ties…’building an arch through which we can walk free men”, the (fairly radical) idea that YOU get to define YOUR higher power, etc.

And, how do you think ANY lodges got started in the western hemisphere? Just like that, that’s how it happens. All lodges this side of the pond were originally chartered out of Europe.

I can google and find EVERY rite and ritual in Freemasonry. I have WATCHED the Master Mason ritual on the Discovery Channel.

the “secrecy” purported to freemasonry, really comes down to a defensive position, from days gone by (and in some places currently), where the idea of a non-dogmatic, accessible to all, all-inclusive and completely personal higher power (taught/encouraged*) by freemasonry was grounds for member’s excommunication/persecution/disfellowshipment/torture/death/discreditation/exile.

*my little Lodge in northern Michigan has a pre-KJV bible, a Koran, and a Torah for the candidates to chose from when they do any oaths, and the candidate is completely encouraged and allowed to bring their own boo of faith of their choosing if none of those suits them

  4. I have been trying to get in to this:

    http://www.redhatsociety.com/

organization for years! I don’t really know what their dealio is, I think they are keeping something from us.

They’re ALL women. Older women, and seem to be pretty well off…mostly widows..

Hmm. I think maybe they are a front for ‘black widow’ women..kill off their rich hubbies and live it up!
